Birds have captivated Nick McCann from childhood.

Bullfinches in the garden and a Yellowhammer on the local heath in Merseyside started a passion which remains to this day; these Pomarine Skuas were filmed (during a force 9 gale) in 2012.
Starting with early ornithological studies at school, in which he endeavoured to emulate great bird artists such as Archibald Thorburn – Nick’s enjoyment of all-things bird-related has informed and influenced his work as a photographer, adventurer and painter ever since.
His filming work has been seen on BBC’s Springwatch, his photographs reproduced in many books and magazines, and his knowledge and love of birds have also influenced his heritage projects - he has a keen interest in highlighting their appeal and importance to the many historic properties and estates with which he works. See ‘Walk on The Wild Side’ for Hudson’s Heritage.

Over 25 years I have visited literally hundreds of historic properties and worked with very many on site.

I’d always thought that the houses and their estates would benefit from much more regard to their fabulous natural resources; birds and wildlife. Many are now taking note.’ Words & pictures © Nick McCann
